In Birendranagar, one of the fastest-growing cities in Surkhet, many women face barriers to education, employment, and financial independence. The region is also home to high rates of gender based violence, leaving many women with few opportunities to rebuild their lives.

At Navjyoti Center Surkhet, the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth are helping change that narrative. Through a partnership, 10 women who experienced gender violence completed tailoring training at the Sisters’ center. The municipality’s mayor and team then provided each graduate with a sewing machine, giving them the tools to earn an income and support their families.

The combination of practical skills, ongoing encouragement, and the means to start a business offers more than financial security. It gives these women renewed confidence, greater independence, and the opportunity to shape a new future for themselves and their children.
