On March 20, the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth will mark the anniversary of the passing of Mother Catherine Spalding, a woman whose life continues to shape a mission of compassion, courage, and care for those most in need.

Mother Catherine lived the Gospel in action. She welcomed children without families, cared for the sick, and reached out to those pushed to the margins. Her witness reflects the call found in Matthew’s Gospel: to feed the hungry, welcome the stranger, and care for the vulnerable.

As Sisters and Associates remember her life, they also turn attention to the present moment. Across the world, millions of people are displaced by war, violence, poverty, and injustice. Migrants, immigrants, and refugees continue to seek safety, dignity, and peace.

In this spirit, the Sisters and Associates invite all people to join in prayer on March 20. This day offers a time to pause in gratitude for Mother Catherine’s life and to renew a shared commitment to welcome the stranger and work for peace in a wounded world.
