Many Charisms, One Spirit, One Call: Holy Union Joins LCWR at 70th Anniversary Event
Home
August, 2026
From August 11th through August 14th in Orlando Florida, Holy Union Sisters’ US Leadership Team, Sisters Kathleen Corrigan and Mary Lou Sullivan walked alongside leadership of other congregations in an historic encounter that brought together women and men religious from Canada, the United States, and Latin America for a first of its kind gathering across the Americas.
Through personal witness, profound dialogue, and communal reflection, they discovered how our many charisms continue to be united by one Spirit and one call. In a fractured world, it was a reminder that the truth that unites us all is what is important and those things that define individual groups are simply a diversity of perspectives.
A highlight of the event was The Jericho Walk, which is a nonviolent public witness rooted in the Hebrew Scriptures. The walk created a centerpiece which names and laments the injustices we seek to address. We walked several circuits around the centerpiece, placing lighted lamps of hope representing our commitment to make our actions match our words when we go forth from this place. Between each circuit prayers are said invoking the spirit of those from each congregation present who have spoken truth to power throughout history.
Below is a list of the circuits and the causes we prayed for and reflected upon.
Circuit 1 – “Upholding the inherent right to life of every human being and the dignity of each person.”
Circuit 2 – “Welcoming immigrants and providing care and assistance to all who reside in our nation, while advocating for comprehensive immigration reform.”
Circuit 3 – “Standing against violence in all its forms.”
Circuit 4 – “Dismantling racism in all its manifestations.”
Circuit 5 – “Caring for our common home, Earth, through attentive stewardship and decisive action.”
Circuit 6 – “Working to alleviate poverty in all its forms.”
Circuit 7 – “Exercising the responsibility to vote, and advocating for the protection of this opportunity for others.”
Our concluding pledge: “We pledge to live our call to be courageous witnesses of love – refusing to surrender our moral authority or succumb to despair.”
